چکیده
In the fluorescence detection of ultra high energy (& 10 eV) cosmic rays, the number of emitted fluorescence photons is assumed to be proportional to the energy deposited in air by shower particles. We have performed measurements of the fluorescence yield in atmospheric gases excited by electrons over energies ranging from keV to hundreds of MeV in several accelerators. We found that within the measured energy ranges the proportionality holds at the level of few %.

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Direct Measurements, Acceleration and Propagation of Cosmic Rays
This paper summarizes highlights of the OG1 session of the 30th International Cosmic Ray Conference, held in Merida (Yucatan, Mexico). The subsessions (OG1.1, OG1.2, OG1.3, OG1.4 and OG1.5) summarized here were mainly devoted to direct measurements, acceleration and propagation of cosmic rays.
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE The end of the Galactic spectrum
We use a diffusion galactic model to analyze the end of the Galactic cosmic ray spectrum and its mixing with the extragalactic cosmic ray flux. We analyze the transition between Galactic and extragalactic components using two different extragalactic models. We compare the sum of the diffusive galactic spectrum and extragalactic spectrum with the available experimental data.

The effects of thunderstorms on the electromagnetic and muon components of the cosmic ray secondary flux were studied during severe storms obtained in 2004, analyzing the variations of the counting rates shown in the upper and lower scintillators of the muon telescope installed in Mexico City and considering the data of storms report for the international airport of Mexico City.
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment
The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE HiRes Limits on the Tau Neutrino Flux at the Highest Energies
Data from the High Resolution Fly’s Eye detector that measures cosmic rays with the fluorescence technique is used to set limits on the flux of tau neutrinos in the energy range from 10 to 10 eV. This energy range is particularly interesting as we expect a guaranteed flux of cosmogenic neutrinos from the GZK mechanism.
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Air fluorescence yield dependence on atmospheric parameters
The fluorescence detection of ultra high energy cosmic rays requires a detailed knowledge of the fluorescence light emission from nitrogen molecules over a wide range of atmospheric parameters, corresponding to altitudes typical of the cosmic ray shower development in the atmosphere. We have made a precise measurement of the fluorescence light spectrum excited by MeV electrons in air. The relat...
